Happy Birthday Church-part 2

Why do Christians, celebrate this Holy day (holiday), called Pentecost

So, who is He, this Holy Spirit?

He is in every book of the Bible from Genesis 1:2 “…the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” to the last book of Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the bride say come…”. Sometimes very visible, other times hovering in the shadows, but always there.

He is the third Person of the Trinity: Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit “. Isn’t it interesting that in the Greek (the language in which the New testament was written), the word “name” in that verse is singular? One name, one God, three Persons... what a mystery!

He is a gift 😊 Acts 1:4-5 “On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this  command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me  speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

He is a person who thinks, speaks, loves, can be grieved, convicts (never condemns) and is unimaginably creative! He is loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, faithful, gentle, scary-strong and powerful, self-controlled and oh so good! He is always truthful. He is God!

In John’s Gospel 14:16 Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” That word “another” means, ‘one exactly like me’. We are given the Spirit of Jesus to be with us in every situation, and better still, to be in us to lead, guide, comfort, encourage, and correct. He always points us to the Father and to Jesus – He so loves them!

And on the day of Pentecost when all the believers were gathered together, The Gift was poured out… and the church was born. Three thousand people were added to that small group who were waiting and praying.

Oh what a gift, what a wonderful gift! The Gift that keeps on giving ….LIFE! You can have this free gift too. He comes when we lay down our lives at the foot of the cross and we let the blood of Jesus wash away our sins.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,

And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and

Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

Acts 1:8
