The New Year is just another day with a sunrise and a sunset, but ...
the way we think about it, is what makes it different! New Year is both a finish line and a starting line at the same time!
So, where are you standing? It is wisest to stand thoughtfully at the finish line of 2017 first, as you don't want to drag unnecessary baggage into the new year's journey. Reflect back and ask yourself what should I let go? Unmet expectations? Disappointments? Failures? Hurts? Pain in all its disguises? ... leave whatever will color or taint what we take into the future? The question is - how do we release those life-shattering events, those painful memories, those "never-to-be-forgotten" moments that are burnt into our heart, soul and mind?
My answer is simply 'Jesus". He said he had come to make all things new - that he had paid a price for what we had done, or not done. For what we had said, or not said. For what was done to us, or not done to us. For what was said to us, or not said to us ... all the regrets and broken pieces belong to Him. He paid for all of it. It is no longer ours to crippled us. He came to lift those soul-crushing burdens, to lift our faces up to meet His eyes and see there... not shame, not disgust, not disapproval ... but mercy, understanding, grace, forgiveness, compassion ...
I remember ministering to a friend who was struggling with depression. As I prayed for her I saw an attic filled with broken objects. Jesus walked in and started picking up things one by one and He very tenderly said to her, "These are all mine. I paid for these with my blood. When you keep them, you are stealing from what is mine." Give them all to the rightful owner.
You're also standing on the threshold of a new year. A year filled with hope and promise ... and with unpredictability and uncertainties ... but Father is there ... waiting with His hand outstretched towards you. Waiting for you to place your hand in His ... "And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.” And he replied: “Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gate_of_the_Year
Friend, we don't know what the future holds, but we do know who holds the future - our future if we choose to walk with Him through whatever comes our way. In Him we have everything we need to navigate unknown waters.
The blessing of the Father is that His steadfast love is new every morning ... every morning is the first day of the rest of your life. How encouraging! The God of second chances, third chances ... and the umpteenth chance is still waiting for your hand, for your heart ... for all that makes up you!
May 2018 be a year filled with God-sized dreams, audacious prayers and wild adventures!
